ACR accreditation: Quality label from the American College of Radiology, used internationally as a marker for equipment, protocols and reporting standards.

B

B

Bore: The cylindrical opening of the MRI scanner. Standard bore is 60 cm; wide-bore is 70 cm; open MRI uses two plates instead of a tunnel.

D

D

DWI (diffusion-weighted imaging): MRI sequence measuring water molecule movement, used in stroke and oncology to assess cell density.

G

G

Gadolinium: Contrast agent injected during MRI to highlight blood vessels, tumours and inflammation. Used cautiously in kidney disease.

I

I

Incidental finding: Something seen on a scan that was not the reason the scan was ordered. It may be harmless, or it may need a follow-up test.

M

M

MRI-conditional: A label meaning an implant may be scanned only under stated conditions, such as field strength and device settings. It does not mean every MRI is safe.

R

R

Radiologist: A doctor who interprets medical images and writes the MRI report. The person who positions you in the scanner is usually a radiographer.
RF (radiofrequency): Short radio pulses that make tissue protons resonate — the basis of the MRI signal; safe within clinical SAR limits.

T

T

T1 versus T2 gewichting: Twee basis “contrastmodi” in MRI: T1 benadrukt vet en anatomische structuur; T2 benadrukt vocht en ontsteking. Radiologen combineren sequenties voor diagnose.
T1 vs T2 weighting: Two basic MRI contrast modes: T1 emphasises fat and anatomy; T2 emphasises fluid and inflammation. Radiologists combine sequences for diagnosis.
Tesla (T): SI unit of magnetic field strength. Clinical MRI scanners typically operate at 1.5T or 3.0T; higher field strength can mean sharper images or shorter scan time.
Tesla (T): De SI-eenheid van magnetische veldsterkte. MRI-scanners voor klinisch gebruik werken doorgaans op 1.5T of 3.0T; hogere veldsterkte betekent hogere resolutie of kortere scantijd.
