Through your insurer
A medically indicated MRI, requested by your GP or specialist and done under your health insurance, is covered care. You still pay toward your annual deductible (eigen risico) if you have not used it. You do not get a separate “MRI bill” on top, apart from that deductible, when the clinic or hospital bills the insurer.
Paying yourself
Private clinics publish self-pay prices. A single region such as a knee or lumbar spine is often in the range of a few hundred euros. Contrast, a second region and a same-day doctor’s explanation can sit on top. A preventive total-body package is a different product and costs much more. Those packages are not the same as an insured diagnostic scan.
Ask for the price of the exact protocol, whether the written report and the image download are included, and what a repeat sequence costs if you cannot finish. A verbal “from” price is not a quote.
